Personalization

According to the type of the card, the application and quantity there are different ways of personalization of cards.

There are monochrome processes for plastic or paper cards to personalize numbers, barcodes or QR-Codes or text. Coloured personalization is needed for photo ID cards.

High-Secure processes with logfile make sure that no duplicates are created and record the entire personalization process.

The most common processes of personalization are:

Thermotransfer print

This personalization is suitable exclusively for glossy laminated cards in credit card quality. The thermotransfer print is usually made on preprinted cards in Offset print or on blank cards.

• Personalization is printed on the lamination
• monochrome print (black, white, red, blue, green, gold, silver)
• suitable for text, numbers, Barcodes and QR-Codes, simple graphics
• high quality in 300 dpi
• all fonts are possible
• recommended for small and medium quantities
• no bled-off print possible
• only for glossy laminated cards

Thermosublimation print

The Thermosublimation print is usually made on Plastic cards that are already printed in Offset. The layout is sublimated from the 4 primary colours (CMYK) and printed by the thermal print head directly on the card surface.

• suitable for text, numbers, Barcodes and QR-Codes, ID photos and graphics (logo etc.)
• high quality in 300 dpi
• all fonts are possible
• no bled-off print possible
• only for glossy laminated cards

Retransfer print

For Retransfer print only glossy laminated cards are used. Retransfer print is usually printed on blank cards. The layout is sublimated out of the 4 primary colours and printed on the card indirectly by a Retransfer film.

• suitable for full area graphics, text, numbers, Barcodes and QR-Codes and ID photos
• high quality in 300 dpi
• all fonts are possible
• no bled-off print possible
• only for glossy laminated cards

Laserpersonalization

• Fonts and numbers are lasered on the card surface
• suitable for texts, numbers
• high quality
• good readability
• forgery proof
• special Overlay necessary
• quite expensive
• usually used in Access control cards or Debitcards

Embossing

• Personalization is mechanically embossed in the card
• colouring in black/white/silver/gold (Special colours upon request)
• select between two standard fonts
• limited set of characters
• embossing goes through to backside
• Restricted layout on the backside of the card (leave blank the embossed part)

DOD (Drop on Demand)

• Personalization on the surface of the card
• high-quality, high-res Inkjet personalization
• suitable for texts, numbers, Barcodes and QR-Codes
• monochrome black
• fast and cost efficient method of Personalization
• Application of scratch off and labels is possible in one ste
• Protocol of the production
• Duplicates are automatically sorted out
• Every card is read by machine and a logfile is created
• suitable for high volumes
• Typically used for gift cards

Inkjet personalization

• Personalization is made on the card surface
• monochrome black, lower resolution than DOD
• suitable for texts, numbers, Barcodes and QR-Codes
• very fast and very cheap method of Personalization
• suitable for high volumes
• Typically used for Prepaid Phone cards
